Struggling Aldershot rattled leaders Leyton Orient at the Recreation Ground but still fell to a 2-1 defeat as Justin Edinburgh’s side moved three points clear at the top.
Injury forced Orient into a fifth-minute change but James Brophy, who replaced Jordan Maguire-Drew, set up both first-half goals.
Two pinpoint corners by the midfielder were met by the head of Josh Coulson each time as he put Orient into a commanding half-time lead.
The Shots fashioned an unlikely lifeline when Scott Rendell was fouled in the area and got up himself to pull one back from the penalty spot.
The home side poured forward in the final stages and substitute Reece Grant sent a header against a post as Orient clung on.
