The Chile international is set to miss the next six weeks with a knee injury he suffered against Southampton last weekend has failed to impress at Old Trafford.

He has struggled since his move from Arsenal last January with Marcus Rashford and Romelu Lukaku impressing boss in-waiting Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

And it has been suggested that United will try and get his £500,000 a week wages off their wage bill to free up even more funds for Solskjaer to spend.

But they could find that easier said than done even if they heavily subsidence his wages which will put him out of all but a few elite clubs.

While Alexis Sanchez could kick start his stuttering career elsewhere a source has said that he doesn’t have “any plans to leave and wants to remain at United.”

Sanchez, 30, has scored just one Premier League goal this season and one in the FA Cup.

His signing has been a huge disaster when you consider the finances involved and the output he has delivered.

There was tentative interest from PSG and clubs in Spain in the summer but all are wary of the wages he earns.

The money has been an issue for the players as well with David de Gea demanding parity to commit his future to United.

De Gea remains in talks over a new deal with his current on due to expire next summer.

Manchester United are in London this weekend as they take on Arsenal at the Emirates knowing three points will give them a huge boost in the race for the top four.

United would draw level with third place Tottenham and would open up a four point lead over Arsenal.

Solskjaer has been incredible since replacing Jose Mourinho and is now set to be handed the job on a full time basis despite only joining as interim boss until the summer.
