Morecambe boss Bentley delighted to end woeful home run

Morecambe boss Jim Bentley hailed his side’s first home win for almost three months as “long overdue” as a 3-0 Sky Bet League Two victory over Forest Green Rovers eased their relegation worries.

First-half goals from Rhys Oates and Aaron Collins set Morecambe on their way before Alex Kenyon added the third 19 minutes from time to lift the Shrimps eight points clear of the bottom two.

After a run of four defeats and a draw in their last five games at the Globe Arena, Bentley said: “It was great to get three points at home. It’s been long overdue.

“The fans who have travelled away have seen us pick up some great wins in recent weeks, such as at Port Vale and Oldham.

“But we were desperate to get a result for our home crowd, and we got it today. We fully deserved it, too.

“Overall, it was a great win against a good side going all out for promotion.

“Forest Green play good football but we had a game plan and I’m really pleased with the way the lads carried it out.”

Bentley feels his side could have added to their three-goal tally. He said: “We knew they would have plenty of possession but we knew we could hit them on the counter and that is exactly what we did.

“We thoroughly deserved the three goals and we could have had a few more as well.

“They had a few chances but for us to score three and keep a clean sheet means it was a great day for us all.  Right across the board, there were some great performances.

“It means we have won three of the last five now and have moved clear of the bottom two.”

Rovers, meanwhile, have now lost five of their last six to slip out of the play-off places.

Boss  Mark Cooper was so angry with his team’s toothless display he refused to speak to the media after the game.
