Lowe hails players after Bury bounce back three times against Lincoln

Bury boss Ryan Lowe hailed his side’s character as they battled to earn a late point at home to Sky Bet League Two leaders Lincoln.

Will Aimson’s header salvaged a point for third-placed Bury on a miserable evening in Greater Manchester.

And Lowe was proud of his Shakers side.

He said: “I’ve got a great group of lads in there, the character we have is amazing.

“It’s exciting and everyone’s loving it, but we need to stop going behind in games, we need to stop conceding soft goals, and the lads know that and it is something that we will address.

“The game was a good advert for League Two and you are seeing two teams fighting for three points, two effective teams, we are effective at what we do, and Lincoln are effective at what they do. I feel that 3-3 was a fair result.

“The players put their bodies on the line, but I always want more, and I think we could and should have gone on to win that game.

“I’m disappointed with the goals we’ve given away and we’ll keep working hard to get it right.

“The lads didn’t give in today, there was a never-say-die attitude of that squad and those players and that makes me pleased, but I always want to be more pleased.”

Lincoln led after nine minutes when Danny Rowe capitalised on Chris Stokes’ slip to bend the ball into the bottom left corner.

But Bury were back on level terms after 14 minutes when Jay O’Shea picked up the ball from distance and drove a shot which fizzed up off the wet turf to deflect off defender Jason Shackell.

Stokes deflected Cian Bolger’s shot into his own net before Nicky Adams levelled with a volley.

John Akinde struck Lincoln’s third from the spot after 62 minutes when Harry Anderson was fouled before Aimson’s late header earned a dramatic point.

Lincoln boss Danny Cowley admitted Bury’s resolve proved decisive in earning the home side a point.

He said: “We stopped getting on the ball and we stopped being in control as they wanted it so badly, you’ll never see a group who are more willing than them lot.

“They are very good with the ball, they are the best team in possession in the league, there’s a reason why they score so many, but we have high standards of ourselves.

“We are disappointed as we have been in the lead three times away from home and we want to win those games, and we should be winning those games.

“We are disappointed, with the goals we have conceded, it’s hard to be critical of the players as they were spent, we always knew it was going to be a tough period and we have come through it.

“The lads knew what they were facing today, we have a strong group and we will regroup and dust ourselves down.”
