Rangers have completed their second signing of the day with Steven Davis joining the club on a six-month loan from Southampton.

This will be the midfielder's second spell at Ibrox.

Manager Steven Gerrard said: "Steven is yet another fantastic addition to our squad, we are delighted to welcome him back to the club.

"He is vastly experienced at both club and international level and knows the club, the fans and the demands that come with wearing the Rangers jersey very well.

"He has previously captained the club and been captain for his country and Southampton, so we welcome yet another leader into our dressing room."

Real Madrid DONE DEAL

Real Madrid have confirmed the signing of Brahim Diaz from Manchester City.

Diaz has signed a deal until 2025 and will have his medical tomorrow.

"Today I close a chapter of my life and I say goodbye to Manchester City, the club where I have grown.

"I came here being a kid and now I am a professional footballer.

"Thank you to all the managers in the club, from the academy to the first team, for believing in me because they taught me not only to be a better player, but a better person."

Ramsey reasons

Arsenal boss Unai Emery pulled the plug on Aaron Ramsey's new contract offer as he doesn't feel the player is an 'ideal midfielder'.

Ramsey was all set to stay at Arsenal beyond the summer by signing a new deal recently.

But Gunners chiefs decided to revoke their offer to the Welshman in November, meaning the player will leave on a free at the end of the season.

And ESPN claim Emery was the one who pulled the plug on Ramsey's contract due to him not fitting into his future plans.

Arsenal are aware of the midfielder's ability and work-rate but feel Emery's style of play suits a player with higher short-term bursts of energy.

Rangers DONE DEAL

Rangers have now confirmed Jermain Defoe has joined on an 18-month loan deal from Bournemouth.

Defoe joins on an 18 month loan subject to international clearance and will now join his new team-mates on a training camp in Tenerife.

And Gerrard revealed he wants a player of his experience in the dressing room as he mounts a title charge.

Gerrard said: "I'm delighted to be able to welcome Jermain to Rangers.

"He is an exceptionally talented striker and vastly experienced footballer who has scored goals at every club he has played for.

"He will be a great addition to our dressing room and we look forward to integrating him into the squad whilst we work in Tenerife over the next week."

Palace want striker

Crystal Palace boss Roy Hodsgon remains on the lookout for a new striker this month having missed out on Dominic Solanke.

"Getting a striker is obviously something we would like because as we've seen once again, we can't do much more in terms of dominating games," Hodgson said.

"It's pretty obvious that if we had that person who score goals from nothing, or scores goals from half-chances, we'd be a lot higher up the Premier League and would have won our FA Cup game a lot earlier.

"It's early days in the transfer window and everybody knows this is a tough transfer window because clubs aren't eager to let players go if they're good enough.

"You're looking for the rare pearl – someone who is good enough who will make us better who at the same time for some reason is being released by their club."
