Manchester United have told Roma that they are interested in signing Kostas Manolas, according to reports in Italy.
Manchester United have been linked with a whole host of top level centre-backs, including Toby Alderweireld, Kalidou Koulibaly and Eder Militao.
However, it seems another ace is in the Red Devils’ sights with the January transfer window due to open in less than 24 hours.
According to Italian outlet Tutto Mercato Web, United have "already expressed a clear interest" in Manolas.
The 27-year-old has forged a reputation as one of Serie A’s best defenders over the past four and a half seasons.
And, with no resolution forthcoming following lengthy contract talks, he looks set to leave Roma.
Manolas is made an even more attractive proposition by the fact he has a modest release clause of £32.4m (€36m).
Real Madrid have joined Manchester United in the race to sign Porto centre-back Eder Militao.
According to the Daily Star, both clubs are keen on the young defender who has enjoyed a breakthrough season in Portugal.
Militao’s release clause is £45.2m (€50m) and he has so far rejected Porto’s efforts to get him to sign a new deal.
Borussia Dortmund chiefs are also said to be eager to add Militao to Lucien Favre’s title-chasing squad.
