Clough happy with effort as Burton held by Plymouth

Burton manager Nigel Clough was happy with the effort and resilience of his side despite seeing bottom side Plymouth come from behind to rescue a point in a 1-1 draw.

Ruben Lameiras scored after 52 minutes to cancel out Will Miller’s fourth minute opener.

Miller’s first of the season, and his first for over two years, gave the Brewers the perfect start after combining with youngster Ben Fox for a composed finish.

Both players had been restored to the starting line-up after a period out of the side and seemed an inspired selection from Clough before Plymouh settled and equalised seven minutes into the second half as Brad Collins failed to deal with Lameiras’ well struck effort.

Clough said: “It was an incredibly hard game for us today.

“Despite going 1-0 up early on and the start, we should have had that second goal.

“We talked the other day that even though Plymouth had gone bottom of the league they were going to come and have a go with almost nothing to lose and you saw that out there today.

“When they throw as many people forward as they did it makes it very, very difficult and then they get the goal and their tails are up and I thought we stood firm.

“We haven’t had enough draws this season. We’d like to win the game but certainly that is one we may well have lost a couple of months ago.”

Clough was frustrated that his side also spurned arguably the best chances of the game with Jamie Allen firing over at 1-0 and Marcus Harness similarly wayward shortly after the Pilgrims had equalised.

“We have missed the two best chances of the game,” he added.

“That is the only disappointing thing. We have missed the target from six yards twice. If one of those goes in then I think we win the game but with the injuries and people we had missing today, losing Jamie Allen just after half-time as well, I am extremely proud of the way the players coped out there today.”

Derek Adams kept it short as he summed up his feelings as his side failed to build on the momentum of the equaliser and headed back to Devon with just a point for their efforts.

“That was a very good performance for us today,” said Adams.

“I thought we were the better side and created a lot of good opportunities.

“We had a nice goal from Ruben Lameiras and a fantastic support from us today that we took here and we look forward to the next game

“Everybody here is working hard and we are looking to keep on moving forward.”
