Demari Gray scored in the second half and took his shirt off in celebration to reveal a ‘For Khun Vichai’ message underneath.
Billionaire Srivaddhanaprabha, his two aides and two pilots all died instantly after the boss’s helicopter crashed seconds after take-off following the 1-1 draw with West Ham United last weekend.
Before the match against Cardiff City started, Leicester players were filmed barely holding back tears as they observed a minute's silence a week after losing the club’s owner.
Fans have slammed the referee’s decision to book the winger for his tribute, despite him following the rules on giving yellow cards for taking shirts off.
One Leicester supporter tweeted: "Demarai Gray scores for Leicester, pulls off his shirt to reveal a message with ‘For Khun Vichai’ and then gets booked?
"Have some heart ref.”
Another said: "Referee has just booked Demari Gray for taking his shirt off. Absolutely embarrassing. Incredibly insensitive."
The ref was called out for not being sensitive to the club’s situation: "I know he’s got to uphold the laws of the game but he’s not taken anything into context there.

Another said: "I feel so bad for the ref, gonna be abused for weeks all because he followed the rules, even though the situation calls for it, rules are rules – even though I don’t agree with them.”
Players were given the option not to play today's Premier League match with Cardiff – which they won 1-0 via Gray’s strike.
But they unanimously decided to play the game at the Cardiff City stadium – and vowed to win it for Mr Srivaddhanaprabha.
