Tisdale feels thumping win has been coming

Paul Tisdale admitted he felt the time had come for his side to dish out a hammering after Rhys Healey starred in a 4-0 thrashing of Crawley.

Healey scored two and set up the other two as Dons kept up the pressure on leaders Lincoln with a sixth win in the last seven games.

Boss Tisdale was as pleased with the clean sheet as with the goals, but was cautious when asked whether his men are further forward at this stage than he expected.

The former Exeter boss said: “I am generally very happy. The way we have been playing, I felt we were ready to give someone a hiding.

“It is always gratifying to work on parts of the game and see them come off; we are making progress.

“We were desperate to keep a clean sheet, our standards are such that we wanted a clean sheet.

“I love the position we are in but it is one game at a time and we must look to improve our performances.”

Dons took a firm grip by racing into a 2-0 lead inside 18 minutes with goals from Healey and Kieran Agard.

Healey, on loan from Cardiff, was on target again in first-half stoppage time from close range and top scorer Chuks Aneke sealed the impressive victory on 63 minutes with a shot which went in off the post from Healey’s unselfish pass.

Having picked up 18 points from a possible 18 in October, Dons now boast an unbeaten nine-match run and have only conceeded 10 goals in the league this season.

Crawley head coach Gabriele Cioffi felt his side, thrashed 5-1 at Tranmere the week before, were given another stern lesson but was gracious in defeat.

The 43-year-old Italian said: “They have a really good squad and I’m sure they will be successful.”

This was the first time Crawley have suffered back-to-back defeats under Cioffi, whose mood was not helped by his feeling that his team repeated previous mistakes.

He added: “They were the better side but we beat ourselves.

“It was a hugely frustrating afternoon. We have conceded nine goals in the last two games but it is not us.

“We have to look inside ourselves and we must not blame each other.”

This was the first time since Boxing Day that Crawley had failed to score at home in the league and Cioffi says he is ready for the challenges ahead.

He said: “If you want to be average, you can be average. The answer is inside ourselves. We will grow and I am not scared.”

Cioffi is desperate for his men to put in a much improved display in the FA Cup at Southend, and reverse a run of poor away results.

Crawley have lost all four away games since he took over two months ago, and Cioffi added: “It is up to us to bounce back from this.”
