Ainsworth: Our cunning plan worked to a tee

Gareth Ainsworth claims Wycombe’s 1-0 win over Peterborough was worth more than three points.
Ainsworth worked with his players all week on a game plan to end Peterborough’s unbeaten away run this season – and it worked.
Bryn Morris’ second-half goal was enough for the Chairboys to knock Peterborough out of the top two in Sky Bet League One.
Ainsworth said: “There was a lot more to it than a win. We’ve worked hard this week and put a plan in place, and the players applied it to a tee. It doesn’t always come off, but it did today.
“Our players gave such effort, our closing-down was brilliant. I’m so pleased at how they applied themselves. They ran their socks off.
“We were the better team, and we’re really pleased. A clean sheet was really important, and we really deserved that. Myself and the coaching team had a wry smile at the end as we put something in place and it worked to a tee.
“We deserved that win, we were the better team. They chucked the kitchen sink at us but we deserved the win.
“It was a performance that makes us feel as though we belong in League One.”
The prominent acts of an enterprising opening half came via excellent saves from the two goalkeepers.
Peterborough boss Steve Evans was disappointed to see his side’s unbeaten away run come to an end, but felt his players lacked the spark needed to win the game and singled out Matt Godden for criticism.
He said: “I am disappointed that the away run has come to an end, I don’t think that there was much in the game, but I don’t think we have played with our normal spark.
“These games often come down to fine margins. We had a wonderful chance – it was great play by Ivan Toney, Godden is through and he should score.
“Away from home, you have to put your chances away and I think that was indicative of his performance.
“I thought he was poor in everything he did, but I don’t want to look just at him, we were all poor.
“If you don’t turn up and play properly you do not win any games.”
