Flitcroft hails ‘brave’ Stags

Mansfield boss David Flitcroft praised his side’s bravery as they hit back to claim a 2-2 draw in the 93rd minute at Cheltenham.
Nottingham Forest loanee Tyler Walker popped up with his second of the game and his 10th of the season to extend the Stags’ unbeaten run to nine games.
“We had to dig ourselves out of the hole we’d got into and after such a good start we almost became complacent,” Flitcroft said.
“But the boys showed character, unity and togetherness in the second half, with real bravery in our play.
“If the game had gone on a bit longer, which it should have done, there was only going to be one winner.
“Our fans were brilliant from minute one and made it feel like we were at home.
“I was disappointed with the two we conceded, but Cheltenham are fighting tooth and nail for their manager and they had something to fight to hold on to.”
Mansfield had taken the lead in the seventh minute when Walker headed in Mal Benning’s perfect cross from the left.
Ben Tozer made it 1-1 and then turned provider in the final minute of the first half, skipping past Timi Elsnik and crossing for Boyle to nod past Olejnik.
Walker struck from close range in the dying seconds to send the travelling fans home happy but Robins boss Michael Duff is confident his side will climb away from the bottom of the table if they continue to match the performance levels they showed against Mansfield.
“It’s frustrating because the lads delivered everything I asked of them and we spoke about fight and spirit because last week (a 2-0 home defeat by Stevenage) wasn’t acceptable,” Duff said.
“I think we deserved to win the game and they have scored in the 93rd minute, which is frustrating.
“But the pleasing thing was the application and there was a bit of quality in there too.
“They need to show that sort of spirit and teams need to be coming here knowing they have to roll their sleeves up, that’s the key.
“We are a step closer to where we want to go and I’ll take performances like that, which will get you more wins than losses.”
