Assistant Rob Kelly says little changed in build-up to Bury’s win over Morecambe

Bury assistant Rob Kelly admitted that little changed in the build-up to their 3-2 home win against Morecambe, despite the players knowing that boss Ryan Lowe wouldn’t be in attendance.
It was announced on Saturday that Lowe had been handed a two-game stadium ban and a £1,500 fine after he admitted a Football Association misconduct charge.
However, the Shakers players shrugged off that disappointment as they deservedly saw off the Shrimps, largely thanks to two goals from Dominic Telford.
Asked about Lowe’s absence during what was only Bury’s second win of the campaign, Kelly said: “We’ve kept everything as normal as possible this week.
“All our preparations were the same in the run-up to the game.
“Ryan watched the game somewhere but we weren’t allowed any contact whatsoever.
“I think he texted me within 12 seconds of the final whistle.
“The only difference today was that Ryan wasn’t in the dugout.
“He’s a great young manager with lots of passion.
“He’s making his way in the game and he’ll learn from this little episode.”
Defender Adam Thompson was also on target for Bury, while Rhys Oates and Liam Mandeville hit back for the struggling Shrimps.
Kelly added: “It was a bit of a nervous one towards the end but we’d played some good stuff throughout and I felt we fully deserved the three points.
“We created a lot of chances, and we’ve come away with another three points.
“That’s what it’s all been about.
“I’m new here but I know very well it’s been a difficult period for everyone at the club, what with the relegation and one thing and another.
“This is a good club, though.
“There’s a good young manager here and a very supportive chairman.
“This result today has to be seen as another tiny step forward in what we’re trying to build here.”
Morecambe fell to a fifth defeat in six this term but boss Jim Bentley remains positive as it has not been the easiest of starts for his team.
Bentley said: “It is a tough one to take.
“It’s another defeat but don’t forget we’ve played three teams who have just been relegated from League One and we’ve run them all close.
“We asked a lot of questions of Bury today but when you look at their squad on paper, we are miles apart.
“We made it tough for them at times.
“We were on top in the opening 10 or 15 minutes, but you need to make that dominance pay off.
“I was disappointed to lose another set-play goal too and we’re losing goals at crucial times in the game.
“We’ve conceded too many goals in the 40 to 45 minute period.
“It was much better in the second half. I thought the substitutions worked and we created opportunities to go 2-2.
“Even when we went down to 3-1 we kept plugging away.
“It’s been a difficult start to the season of course, but I think everyone can see progress and hopefully another victory is just around the corner.”
