And there was no hiding his happiness as he joined in with his new team-mates at the City training academy today.
It was the 27-year-old's first opportunity to get into the swing of things under the regime of manager Pep Guardiola.
Though a large amount of the first team squad have still to report back for duty following the World Cup, there were enough to go through a thorough session.
Also joining Mahrez on the training ground was youngster Phil Foden, who is hoping to make an impact in the first team this season.
And though he is currently in Russia with the French squad, Benjamin Mendy took time out to welcome his new team-mate.
Mendy dug out a picture from last season when he was snapped chatting with Mahrez after Leicester visited City last season.
He posted the image on Instagram and wrote: "The exact moment when Riyad Mahrez decided to sign for Man City"
