JOSE MOURINHO and his new coach were back to work today as Manchester United returned for pre-season training.

Michael Carrick hung up his esteemed boots at the end of last season to take up a role in Mourinho's backroom staff.

And today the pair were pictured driving into United's Carrington training complex as plans for the season's title-assault get underway.

Carrick must be keen to make a good impression on his first day in the new job as he even managed to arrive an hour before the gaffer.

But not everyone was there.

Romelu Lukaku and Marouane Fellaini are set to go up against club-mate Paul Pogba as Belgium meet France in the World Cup semi-finals.

Mourinho will he hoping any fallout from the knock-out game doesn't spill into United's ranks ahead of the big Premier League season.

They will be desperate to go one better in the upcoming season after being beaten to the title by fierce rivals Manchester City.

And they might get one over on their city rivals before a ball is even kicked - by signing the son of a former blue.

United scouts ran the rule over Molde's Norwegian wonderkid Erling Haaland on Sunday.

The 17-year-old forward is emerging as one of the most promising talents on the Continent.

SunSport reported last week how United talent spotter Tommy Moller Nielsen watched the teenager bag all four goals in the victory over Brann just over a week ago.

Now the Mirror claim the Red Devils were watching again as Haaland – son of former Premier League star and Man City midfielder Alf-Inge – and his team-mates took on Valeranga.

And the hotshot impressed again as he assisted Mattias Mostrom for the first before grabbing a brace for himself.
