Here’s what everyone (a few people on Twitter) said about Mohamed Salah the day he signed for Liverpool

Did everyone think Mohamed Salah's move to Liverpool was going to be a success?

Here’s what everyone (a few people on Twitter) said about Mohamed Salah the day he signed for Liverpool

I'm not going to lie, I came into this looking for a bit of light-hearted ridicule.

Hindsight is a beautiful thing, you see.

Season after season it makes Paul Merson look a complete buffoon when he goes on a rant about Kevin De Bruyne's 'absolute joke' of a move to Man City, or Yaya Toure's bluntness in front of goal.

While De Bruyne did miss out on being named the Player of the Season by a fraction, he can at least console himself in lifting the Premier League and EFL Cup.

But what of the man who pipped him to the award? What was said of Mohamed Salah on the day he signed for Liverpool?

I've rounded up a smorgasbord of opinions, some of which were disturbingly on point, some of which were so wide of the mark you'd mistake them for an Alvaro Morata one-on-one finish.

There is no one on this planet more woke than @mahdiyyah60, who called Liverpool's Champions League excellence to perfection.

Any chance of getting this week's lottery numbers?

At the time of writing Salah has scored 44 goals in all competitions to fire Liverpool to a Champions League final while Suso finished sixth with AC Milan.

He did so by scoring eight goals in all competitions. Hardly prolific but he was free, as @RYOmoha was so keen to point out.

Before you laugh, this tweet could be absolutely on the money.

Jermaine Pennant was the best player in the 2007 Champions League final, although he ended up on the losing side. Omen?

What's changed, Mr Man United? Seemingly quite a lot.

Mainly, not playing under the Portuguese Tony Pulis seems to have liberated Salah and allowed him to flourish. Tony Martial and Marcus Rashford are smuggling their way down the M62 as I speak.

It's weird to think there was a time when you'd question splashing out £40million on a player like Salah.

Neymar's move to PSG essentially meant that you took a normal transfer fee, added £30mil and then multiplied by 10.

To date, George Weah is the only African recipient of the Ballon d'Or, but Salah could soon be joining him.

Salah also single-handedly dragged Egypt to the World Cup finals. If he isn't the best African footballer in the Premier League, he's definitely in the top one.

A Man United fan using a Man City player to belittle a Liverpool player. I've seen it all now.

Silva is a lovely little player, but he's not even the best Silva at City.

How big are those question marks now? I think it's fair to say Salah has just about proved himself.

Feel free to tweet me when Salah scores three goals next season, though.

If @Jas5onRoberts was this pleased when Salah signed, imagine how he's feeling now.

A rare case where everyone is happy (as long as they're a Liverpool fan).

I'll leave you with this beautiful self-portrait from the man himself. Expect it to be worth at least £300m by the year 2030.
