Manchester City bus pelted with bottles en route to Anfield

Champions League nights bring an extra element of tension, and Liverpool's clash with Manchester City has proven no different after the Blues' team bus was pelted with bottles en route to Anfield.

Liverpool supporters had previously made clear their intention to make the atmosphere as intimidating as possible for the visiting Manchester club, and amidst a backdrop of red smoke, they crossed the line.

Bottles and cans, amongst other objects, were hurled in the direction of the team bus, putting both members of public and the police at risk.

Significant damage was caused to the bus, with several of the windows cracked.

The damage has been considered so severe that Manchester City are now scrambling to find an alternative coach to transport the team away from Anfield after Wednesday's match.

UEFA have been made aware of the incident and it's likely disciplinary measures will follow.

Guardiola was particularly unhappy given the current climate in the world.

"We didn't expect this, it came as a shock to us, especially after what happened in Dortmund last year," he explained in an interview with BT Sport.

Jurgen Klopp was quick to echo the sentiment of his club by offering a sincere apology to his opponents.

"I don't understand this, we've tried everything to avoid such a situation, on behalf of Liverpool Football Club, I apologise," he confirmed, also to BT Sport.
