Ashley Cole Once Slid Into Meghan Markle's DMs

One of the biggest stories outside the world of sport at the moment, yes it does exist apparently, has to be that Prince Harry has got engaged to his incredible girlfriend, Meghan Markle. She's an activist, a feminist and a humanitarian.

However, what we didn't know about her is that things could have turned out very differently, as she nearly ended up with former Chelsea and Roma left back Ashley Cole!

According to the Daily Mail, she very nearly 'went on a date' with footballer Ashley Cole or the former Mr Cheryl Cole to many of us.

He apparently followed her on Twitter and asked her out on a date.

Meghan apparently mentioned this fact to a UK journalist, and said: "Do you know this guy, Ashley Cole?

"He follows me and he keeps trying to talk to me on Twitter. He's trying really hard.

"He wants to go out on a date while I'm over here in London. What do you think? Do you know him?'"

After being given some background information regarding the footballer, she decided to decline his offer of a date.

Weird, right?

Naturally the engagement has sent social media into a meltdown, with everyone trying to find out every scrap of information they possibly can about the Royal Wedding.

Her parents, Thomas Markle and Doria Ragland have also wished the couple 'a lifetime of happiness'. The rest of The Royal Family are also said to be delighted by the news.

Kensington Palace uploaded a statement on its Instagram account, which read: "His Royal Highness Prince Henry of Wales and Ms. Meghan Markle are engaged to be married.

"The Prince of Wales made this announcement this morning: His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales is delighted to announce the engagement of Prince Harry to Ms. Meghan Markle. The wedding will take place in Spring 2018.
"Further details about the wedding day will be announced in due course. His Royal Highness and Ms. Markle became engaged in London earlier this month.

"Prince Harry has informed Her Majesty, The Queen and other close members of his family. Prince Harry has also sought and received the blessing of Ms. Markle's parents. The couple will live in Nottingham Cottage at Kensington Palace."
