Jose Mourinho wants to bring David Luiz to Manchester United
Luiz has fallen out with Chelsea manager Antonio Conte after he dropped him for the match against United two weeks ago.
The pair had had a bust up after Chelsea were thumped 3-0 in the Champions League at Roma, when in a team meeting Luiz questioned Conte's tactics.
The Italian manager had also been unhappy at Luiz's angry reaction when being substituted in the home game against Roma.
Luiz is understood to be still unhappy at being left out by Conte. The Brazilian has been training at the club's training ground for the last 10 days with the other Chelsea players who were not on international duty.
Express Sport understands that the Brazilian is still angry at what he sees as a humiliation for someone who came back to the club last summer because of his love for Chelsea.
It is understood that Mourinho is monitoring Luiz's situation at Chelsea closely and is considering a move - possibly even in January.
The Portuguese only worked with Luiz for one season at Chelsea, in 2013-14 and he then only started in 15 league games, mostly in midfield, with Mourinho preferring John Terry and Gary Cahill as his centre-backs. At the end of the campaign, Luiz was sold for a then world-record £50million fee for a defender to Paris Saint-Germain.
At the time Mourinho said Luiz "would not be missed." Luiz in turn said Mourinho was not "special" to him and taunted the then Chelsea manager when PSG knocked his side out of the Champions League in 2015.
But the bad blood appears to have been forgotten, with Mourinho apparently impressed with Luiz's improved performances last season, as he returned from PSG in a cut-price £34m deal and helped Chelsea win the title.
Conte, perhaps significantly after the United game, gave no guarantees that Luiz would have a future at Chelsea, saying: "I don't know. He has to work hard, otherwise they are on the bench or in the stand."
Conte played Andreas Christensen in Luiz's place in the 1-0 win over United and the young Danish international is highly rated at Stamford Bridge. If Luiz was sold though, Chelsea would look for a replacement.
