Former Manchester City goalkeeper Shay Given has warned Manchester United that they must keep David De Gea if they are to win the Premier League this season.
De Gea has continuously been linked with a move to Real Madrid in recent years but the deal has so far failed to materialise, with the Spaniard remaining at Old Trafford.
Given feels that De Gea would be a significant improvement on current Real goalkeeper Keylor Navas.
Given told Sky Sports (via Manchester Evening News): "I felt this summer he might go
"They always sign a Galactico every summer. I'm still not sure about the Real Madrid goalkeeper.
"David De Gea would be the perfect replacement for him.
"To get a title challenge on, it's vitally important that they keep David De Gea at the club.
"There's not too many noises coming out of the David De Gea camp that he wants to move."
De Gea remains one of the standout goalkeepers in the Premier League and he started the new season by keeping a clean sheet in the 4-0 victory over West Ham United.
Possessing impressive reflexes, De Gea made an average of 1.69 saves per game in the Premier League last campaign, while he had an average claim success rate of 96 per cent.
United face Swansea City away on Sunday, with De Gea aiming to prove his worth once again.
