Thierry Henry criticises Romelu Lukaku for one thing after two-goal Man United debut

Manchester United got their 2017-18 Premier League season off to the perfect start when they destroyed West Ham 4-0 at Old Trafford on Sunday.

Romelu Lukaku scored a brace on his debut on top of efforts from Anthony Martial and Paul Pogba as the Hammers simply couldn't cope with United's fluent attack.

Thierry Henry watched the game unfold in the Sky Sports studio and as one of the greatest ever strikers to set foot in the Premier League, his opinion carries a lot of weight.

The Arsenal legend was seriously impressed with United's frontline, but despite an electric debut, he had some criticism for Lukaku.

"He was close to a hat-trick, he scored goals we expected him to score, and there are bits he can work on," Henry told Sky Sports. "But what a start to his Manchester United career.

"The possession, this is the thing for me he needs to work on. He lost it 18 times and that is a tiny bit too much. Other than that he had an amazing start. He could have had a hat-trick but he did what he is supposed to do.

"I thought Marcus Rashford had an amazing game. Gary [Neville] said it, the pace they have, the size they have, and today they put the ball in the back of the net.

"He lost it 18 times and that is a tiny bit too much."

"That was something they were not doing last season. Lukaku was outstanding, Nemanja Matic too, and Rashford was a threat all afternoon.

"Then Martial came on and he had desire. I saw him take that first ball on the left side and he went straight at Pablo Zabaleta. That was something I didn't see at times last season.

"Pogba scored too and when you have Martial off the bench, the firepower they have and the size, with Matic commanding the midfield, they are going to be amazing."

Henry works with Lukaku as part of the Belgium national team, so perhaps there is a degree of tough love there.

But, either way, United fans will take a two-goal performance like this from Lukaku any day of the week.
