Lionel Messi was desperate for Neymar not to leave Barcelona this month, it has been revealed.
Neymar quit Barca for PSG in a world record €222m - but not before holding a serious chat with his former teammate.
Sport says Messi, during talks, assured Neymar if he wanted to win the Ballon d'Or, he would do everything he could to make it happen. The Argentine was prepared to take a backseat so Neymar could have a greater influence on Barca's play.
The stunning offer was made during Barca's US preseason tour, where Neymar also spoke with Luis Suarez about his plans.
Interestingly, against Juventus after that meeting, Messi twice teed up Neymar for goals in their International Cup tie.
