Man Utd boss Jose Mourinho tells Ed Woodward to sign Eric Dier: Tottenham demand £50m
Tottenham have put a £50m price tag on Eric Dier

MANCHESTER UNITED will have to fork out £50million if they want to sign Tottenham star Eric Dier, according to reports.

Jose Mourinho is keen to splash the cash this summer as he looks to build a squad capable of challenging in the Premier League and the Champions League.

And after signing Victor Lindelof from Benfica earlier this week, the Portuguese boss is targeting further defensive reinforcements.

Dier is said to be his preferred choice with the England international capable of playing in midfield and at centre-back.

Mourinho sees him as a midfielder though and believes he can be the long-term successor to Michael Carrick when he finally hangs up his boots.

Carrick has been given another season at Old Trafford but Dier would be a welcome addition to Mourinho’s squad.

However, any attempts to lure him away from north London will cost United £50m, the Telegraph claim.

Mauricio Pochettino and Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy are keen to keep hold of the 23-year-old.

Dier only signed a new long-term deal with Spurs in September that keeps him at the club until 2021.

But the midfielder, who currently pockets around £70,000 a week, knows he is unlikely to increase his wages if he stays.

The Telegraph suggest United could double his income and executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward is tasked with making a deal happen.

Mourinho has made it clear to Woodward he wants Dier at Old Trafford next season.
