Burton Albion FC vs Barnsley - Burton wait on Jamie Ward fitness

Posted Thursday, November 03, 2016 by PA

Burton will check on the fitness of Jamie Ward ahead of Barnsley's visit to the Pirelli Stadium.

Ward, this week named in the Northern Ireland squad for their forthcoming World Cup qualifier against Azerbaijan, was forced off at half-time against Leeds with a hamstring problem and is a doubt for Saturday.

"We're not sure yet, it might go to the wire with him," said Burton boss Nigel Clough at his pre-match press conference. "We'll try to get him out there, but I'd says he's 50-50 at the moment."

Clough otherwise has a full squad available as Albion chase a third straight Championship victory at home.

Barnsley will be boosted by the return of skipper Conor Hourihane and fellow midfielder Josh Scowen from suspension.

Hourihane missed last week's home draw against Bristol City after reaching five yellow cards and Scowen completed his three-match ban following his straight red card in the recent defeat to Fulham.

Striker Tom Bradshaw has recovered from the illness which restricted him to an unused substitute's role last week.

Centre-half Marc Roberts is two weeks away from a return to action due to a hamstring injury, while left-back Aidy White (gluteal muscle) and winger Saidy Janko (thigh) are still out.
