Sheffield Wednesday are close to a clean bill of health for Sunday's Championship opener against Aston Villa.

Sam Hutchinson (quad) is expected to be available after being forced off during the pre-season friendly with Nacional in Portugal.

Jack Hunt (hamstring) and Marco Matias are also ready to return after sitting out the final pre-season friendly.

Portugal international Lucas Joao is recovering from a back problem but could feature.

Ross McCormack could make his Aston Villa debut after signing in a B£12million deal from Fulham.

The striker penned a four-year deal at the club on Thursday and is likely to be joined by fellow new boys Tommy Elphick, Aaron Tshibola and Pierluigi Gollini.
