Crawley Town vs Wycombe Wanderers - Goalkeeping dilemma for Drummy
Posted Friday, August 05, 2016 by PA
Crawley manager Dermot Drummy must decide which of his goalkeepers will start in Saturday's Sky Bet League Two opener against Wycombe.
Both Yusuf Mersin and Mitch Beeney, who is on loan from Chelsea until January, joined the club over the summer and are pushing for a place in the team's starting line-up.
Matt Harrold is back to full fitness but, after fellow striker James Collins had a successful pre-season, he is expected to start on the bench.
Jason Banton and Jordan Roberts are both in contention after overcoming injury and illness, respectively.
Striker Paul Hayes is the only injury worry for Wycombe manager Gareth Ainsworth after picking up a knock in pre-season.
New signing Adebayo Akinfenwa, who joined the club following his release from AFC Wimbledon, is hoping to make the starting XI but faces competition up front from a number of options.
Wycombe struggled for goals last season, with only two teams netting less than their tally of 45 in League Two, and Ainsworth has spent the summer recruiting new strikers.
After netting in Wycombe's final friendly, Garry Thompson, who has been with the club since 2015, believes he has done enough to start against Crawley but Paris Cowan-Hall and Myles Weston are also in contention.
