John Aldridge: Raheem Sterling “has disappeared up his own backside”

Former Liverpool star John Aldridge has blasted Raheem Sterling and his agent, Aidy Ward after rumours of a move away from Anfield saw the playmaker struggle for form, per TalkSPORT.

Sterling has seen himself become engaged in a contract row with the Merseyside club amidst suggestions that Manchester City and Real Madrid could make a move for the England international, according to the Daily Mail.

And Aldridge admits he feels sorry for the former QPR youngster, who has seen his sensational start to the campaign drop off at the turn of the year, and also believes that Ward is to blame for Sterling’s current situation.

Speaking to Alan Brazil on TalkSPORT this morning Aldridge said: “His agent has got to realise the predicament he has got this lad into. The way he has gone about handling the situation with Raheem is pathetic.

''The way he has gone about handling the situation with Raheem is pathetic.

''He had a real good spell from November to February and the lad has since just disappeared up his own backside. Yesterday [for England] epitomised what he has come to.”

Sterling scored seven goals for Liverpool in the league this season as the Reds ended an inconsistent campaign in sixth, 25 points off champions Chelsea.

The 20-year-old was the main attacking outlet for Liverpool for large portions of the season with injuries to striker Daniel Sturridge and inconsistent performances by Mario Balotelli and Rickie Lambert leaving Sterling isolated up top for the Merseyside club.
