Koln vs Eintracht Frankfurt preview - Cologne concentrate on survival

Cologne coach Peter Stoger is keen to put his side's DFB-Pokal elimination in midweek behind them and focus on remaining in the Bundesliga next season.

A 2-1 defeat at Freiburg means all Cologne have to play for this season is survival, and with the relegation zone only a handful of points away, that is precisely what they must now put all of their efforts into, starting against Eintracht Frankfurt on Sunday.

"It's still a bit early to be hoping for favours from other clubs so we need to concentrate on ourselves and ensure we get the points we need," said Stoger at a press conference.

The Austrian coach has already pinpointed Frankfurt's most dangerous outlet, midfielder Alexander Meier.

"He's had an extraordinary season so far," Stoger said. "We've got to defend better as a team and prevent them from getting crosses in.

"Frankfurt are very dangerous in the attack, but they do tend to have a few problems with their defensive organisation and that is where we've got to try to get at them.

"It's going to be a difficult challenge, but we're looking forward to it and we want the three points."

Meier's two goals last weekend helped the Eagles beat Hamburg and move to within four points of the top six.

Their coach Thomas Schaaf is not going to think about qualifying for Europe next season, though, unless that win can be added to with a few more.

"We're not only aiming to play one good game, but to play two, three or four more," he said. "We want some consistency."

Haris Seferovic could lead the Frankfurt attack again after suspension, but Nelson Valdez is not yet fit enough to return from a serious knee injury.
