Oxford United 0 : 2 Shrewsbury Town - Shrews hit top spot

Shrewsbury went top of League Two with a comfortable 2-0 win over Oxford at the Kassam Stadium.

Two goals in five minutes early in the game guaranteed a stroll for the Shrews, who made it four league games without defeat.

James Collins opened the scoring in the 13th minute from Scott Vernon's cross after U's midfielder Michael Collins miscontrolled the ball near the centre circle.

The visitors might have had another soon after with Danny Hylton heading off the line at a corner.

But on 18 minutes it was again so easy for Shrewsbury as they ended a slick move with Mark Ellis rising well at the far post to head in Liam Lawrence's left-wing cross.

Oxford, totally outplayed at this stage, did manage a response of sorts, Hylton having a low shot parried by keeper Jayson Leutweiler, who then pushed Joe Riley's free-kick around a post.

Shrewsbury should have added more goals. They squandered a five-on-two break at the end of the first half, and Nathan Knight-Percival headed against the bar early in the second.
