MARIO BALOTELLI is facing a Football Association investigation after an image containing antisemitic language was posted on one of his social media accounts last night.

The controversial Liverpool striker’s Instagram page showed a picture of the computer game hero Super Mario under the heading “Don’t be racist.”

Among the writing below was the line “jumps like a black man and grab coins like a jew.”

The image was quickly deleted from the striker’s account before Balotelli took to Twitter shortly afterwards to say: “My Mom is jewish so all of u shut up please. (sic)”

Liverpool are aware of the controversy and a club spokesman said last night: “We are aware of the posting which has since been promptly deleted by the player.

"We will be speaking to the player about this issue.”

The FA will today begin its own probe and it is likely to be followed by internal disciplinary action from Liverpool.

The episode comes with Wigan chairman Dave Whelan having been charged with the FA last week with aggravated misconduct for media comments about Jewish and Chinese people.

Balotelli has missed Liverpool’s last three matches with a groin injury and is again set to be sidelined for tonight’s trip to Leicester.

The Italy forward has scored just two goals since a £16m move from AC Milan, but has yet to find the target in the Premier League and his future is already uncertain.

In another post on Twitter last night, Balotelli said: “I just know that those are “trying” to “kill” me for my unlucky moment they ll need to stick with their plan even when i’ll be back scoring goals. (Sic)”
