Ozil versus Ozil

The divorce that exists between Mesut Ozil and his father became painfully apparent this week when both men were on the point of taking each other to court over money issues. The fall-out has been a long time coming, however. To be exact, since October 2013, the day that Mesut left Real Madrid.
Mesut left 'Los Blancos' after signing a contract with Arsenal for a cool €8 million. The player, however, didn't want to go. Pushed by his father, he exited the Bernabeu by the back door, leaving a club that he was perfectly happy to stay at.
So fast was the deal pushed through that you could almost say that Mesut left the Madrilenian club without realising it. A month later, he told his father that he wouldn't be requiring any more of his services. In 2012, Mustafa had founded Özil Marketing to deal with his son's businesses, but Mesut decided to get rid of him.
Mesut put his brother Mutlu in charge of the company, but Mustafa, who is said to have pocketed an €8 million commission for the Arsenal deal, took it badly and decided to take his son to court, demanding €630,000 for advertising contracts that he had supposedly won. Mesut counter-attacked by demanding a million and the company car.
In the end, an amicable agreement was reached in order to avoid taking the affair to court – proceedings were set to begin this Tuesday in Düsseldorf. On a personal level, however, the two parties are far from amicable with each other, the relationship having come to a bitter end.
The big loser in all of this is Mesut, who many assure not a day goes by without him regretting having left 'La Casa Blanca'. The German can only look on from afar while his ex-teammates enjoy great football and success.
