TARGET: Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho says a deal for Real Madrid star Raphael Varane is unlikely
Mourinho is reportedly keen to strengthen his defensive options in January and has been linked with a swoop for France star Varane.
The Special One worked with the 21-year-old during his three year stint in charge of Madrid and it was suggested that he was keen on a reunion with him at Stamford Bridge.
But Mourinho reckons his chances of landing centre-back Varane are slim.
"I like Varane, but everybody knows that he will stay at Real Madrid," Mourinho told Telefoot.
Mourinho also believes Varane is one of many exciting French players and tipped the Euro 2016 hosts to be one of the main contenders for the competition.
"France has a lot of good players like Varane, Pogba, Benzema and Lloris. They can win Euro 2016," he added.
"I have a lot of respect for Deschamps. In the World Cup, we saw a great French team."
