SUPER-AGENT George Mendes has shattered Manchester United's fading hopes of re-signing Cristiano Ronaldo.
LOVING LIFE: Jorge Mendes says Cristiano Ronaldo will be at Real Madrid 'forever'
Ronaldo's future has been under a cloud in recent months following speculation that he wants to quit Real Madrid and return to Old Trafford.
United bosses made enquiries about the Portuguese superstar last season with a view to luring him back in a sensational deal.
And new boss Louis Van Gaal admitted earlier this season that he would love to sign Ronaldo and have him in the United team next season.
Starsport understands United have refused to give up hope of luring their former iconic No.7 back to Manchester and were considering making a bid for him between now and next summer.
But United's chances appeared to be dead in the water last night when Ronaldo's agent Mendes ruled out a return to Old Trafford for his most high-profile client.
Mendes insists Ronaldo will remain at Real and end his career with the Spanish giants and Champions League holders.
Mendes said: "Cristiano Ronaldo is very happy at Real Madrid and has always been happy.
"He is going to break all the records there and will retire there.
"He has an affection for United because his heart was there for six years, but now all he thinks of is Real Madrid and he will always be here".
Ronaldo, 29, would command a transfer fee in the region of £100m and wages of £380,000-a-week if he was to leave the Bernabeu.
United have unlimited funds to spend on new signings and spent more than £160m on strengthening their squad this summer.
But even United's owners the Glazers would have to think twice about the financial implications and cost of re-signing Ronaldo considering he will be 30 come the start of next season.
United sold Ronaldo to Real for £80m in 2009 and he has gone on to establish himself as one of the best players of all time.
Since joining the European champions he has helped them win the La Liga title and European Cup.
He has also notched up an incredible record of scoring 269 goals in 257 games in all competitions and Mendes insists there won't be another player like him for '500 years'.
