REAL DEAL: United could move for Gareth Bale
Manchester United are weighing up a sensational move for Real Madrid superstar Gareth Bale.
Starsport understands a possible deal has been mooted within the inner sanctums at Old Trafford after a failed bid in August last year.
Top brass at Old Trafford held meetings - and made series of high-level phone calls - with Spurs in a bid to gatecrash Real's world-record £85m move.
However, Bale's dream was to play for the Spanish giants and he couldn't be persuaded to turn down the lure of the Bernabeu.
But now United are planning another swoop, in the knowledge they are unlikely to be able to tempt Cristiano Ronaldo back to the north-west.
Bale helped Real win the Champions League last year but there are signs he's now struggling to impose himself in La Liga.
Sources in Spain claim Bale has not settled into the Madrid side - featuring new Galacticos Toni Kroos and James Rodriguez - this season.
BALE OUT? The Madrid star is struggling this season
The 25-year-old is seen to be neglecting his defensive duties, which is causing a concern for boss Carlo Ancelotti.
He has reportedly told his coaching staff: "I only have one piece left to the puzzle and that is Bale."
His team-mates are also understood to be frustrated and they themselves are demanding more from him.
Ancelotti remains convinced he can get Bale back firing - but United are still keeping a close watch on the situation.
Bale fulfilled his childhood dreams by netting the winning goal in the Champions League final against Atletico Madrid last season.
But despite impressing in pre-season, it's now understood his place in the side is under severe threat.
