Southend United vs Morecambe preview - Shrimpers to assess Prosser
Posted Friday, October 03, 2014 by PA
Southend boss Phil Brown will assess Luke Prosser's fitness ahead of the visit of Morecambe.
The in-form centre-back, whose recent partnership with Adam Thompson has helped the Shrimpers keep three clean sheets during four straight wins, could miss out with a knee injury.
Cian Bolger returned to the bench last weekend following a thigh strain and is expected to step in if required but Danish defender Mads Ibenfeldt could also be considered.
Last year's player of the season Ryan Leonard is expected to return to the matchday squad following his recovery from a hamstring problem but Ben Coker is out with damaged ligaments in his elbow.
Morecambe hope to have midfielder Jamie Devitt back from a hamstring problem.
Devitt has sat out the two most recent games with the problem but returned to training earlier this week and could be included for a Shrimps team coming off three straight losses.
Dropped captain Mark Hughes is still waiting for a recall, while another week of rest may have worked in the favour of hip-injury victim Andrew Fleming.
The Shrimps are without a goal in their past three games but Jim Bentley is not short of attacking options, with Paul Mullin and Jack Sampson available if the boss decides to shuffle his pack.
