ROBERTO MARTINEZ claims he would have spent £100m to get Romelu Lukaku to Everton.
TOP MAN: Martinez would have paid whatever he had to, to get the Belgium forward
The Toffees boss would never have got the money, but would have done everything he could to get the Belgium striker to Goodison Park.
Lukaku, 21, became Everton's record buy when he completed his £28m move from Chelsea earlier this summer.
And he is set to face the London club for the first time this weekend when the Toffees host Jose Mourinho's side on Saturday.
Martinez said: "It's not about the value.
"I would have paid £100m for Lukaku. If I had the money, why not?
"The figure is insignificant. It is about the character and type of player you want in the group.
"Sometimes a player at £3m can be an expensive buy and sometimes a player at £28m can be a very cheap buy."
However, the Spaniard is not too surprised Chelsea let the striker leave.
He added: "You want to play a certain way and certain types fit in better than others.
"We let players go as well. That is the nature of the game."
