LAUSANNE, Switzerland (AP) -- Legia Warsaw has failed in its bid to obtain an interim ruling that would have reinstated the team in the Champions League playoff round this week.
The Court of Arbitration for Sport has rejected Legia's request for an urgent appeal against UEFA's decision to punish the Polish team for fielding an ineligible player in the second leg of the third qualifying round against Celtic.
Legia won the two-legged series 6-1 on aggregate but the second leg was declared forfeit, giving Celtic a 3-0 win. The Scottish champions advanced on away goals with a 4-4 aggregate score.
Celtic will take on NK Maribor as scheduled in the first leg of the playoff round Wednesday.
CAS says ''a panel of arbitrators will be constituted to examine this case within the next weeks.''
