Manchester United target Marcos Rojo has handed in a transfer request to Sporting Lisbon, according to widespread reports.
The Red Devils have tabled a £16million bid for the left-back, who starred for Argentina as they reached the World Cup final this summer.
Rojo, 24, is also comfortable playing in central defence and boss Louis Van Gaal is looking to improve that area of his team following the summer departures of Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand.
Another target Thomas Vermaelen opted to join Barcelona from Arsenal last week despite the interest from United.
Van Gaal has now switched his attentions to the Argentine defender and Rojo is believed to have told Sporting he will no longer train with the club until he gets the move he wants.
Southampton have also stated an interest in signing the defender but had a £9.5m bid knocked back as they look to replace Luke Shaw, who joined Manchester United earlier this summer.
