Manchester United are pressing ahead with plans to sign two new defenders.
According to reports in Italy, the Red Devils have joined the chase to sign Arsenal target Kostas Manolas from Olympiakos.
Louis van Gaal is monitoring the Greek defender but faces further challenges from Bayern Munich and Juventus.
Old Trafford officials are also readying a £30m bid for Mehdi Benatia.
United are keen to boost their options at centre-back following the departures of Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic at the end of last season.
Roma's Moroccan international Benatia is also interesting Chelsea.
It has emerged that Manchester United are the only club left in the race to sign Angel Di Maria from Real Madrid.
The Red Devils are in pole position to sign him after PSG pulled out of a deal claiming he was too expensive.
However, reports indicate that the Spanish club are unwilling to lower their asking price which could scupper the Argentinian's move to Old Trafford.

Liverpool are considering a move for Barcelona's ex-Arsenal star Alex Song.
The Cameroon midfielder is thought to be keen to leave the Catalan club and Brendan Rodgers is interesting in signing him either on loan or permanently.
Giuseppe Rossi's agent has played down talk of the Italian striker moving to Anfield.
Andrea Pastorello has confirmed that talk of him joining Brendan Rodger's side is false.
"There is nothing between Rossi and Liverpool,” he said.
Aston Villa have joined the race to sign Serge Gnabry on loan from Arsenal.
Paul Lambert is set to challenge Premier League rivals Crystal Palace, Southampton and Sunderland for the German youth international.
West Ham will find out in the next two days whether they will sign Diafra Sakho.
Sam Allardyce has turned his attention to the Metz striker after failing to nab Connor Wickham from Sunderland.
Former Liverpool striker Luiz Suarez has had his biting ban upheld by the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
The £75m man is, however, allowed to return to training with his new Barcelona team-mates.
Suarez is also allowed to play in friendly matches and could appear in the non-competitive Gamper Cup on Monday.
