ANGER: Reports suggest Pulis was unhappy with the transfer policy emplyed by Crystal Palace

Pulis's patience with Eagles chairman Steve Parish appears finally to have snapped after the pair clashed yet again over the lack of transfer activity.

Starsport understands Pulis, last season's Premier League manager of the year, walked out of crunch talks with the Palace board yesterday.

Parish persuaded Pulis to return to the negotiating table but the final roll of the dice by the Palace co-owner proved in vain and the club are now facing up to finding a new boss before a ball has even been kicked.

The official line from the Eagles last night was that Pulis and the club had parted company by mutual consent.

But the relationship between Pulis and Parish has been strained ever since the January transfer window.

Pulis was also understood to be annoyed Parish went on holiday in the middle of the winter window.

And after another slow start to their transfer business this summer, it appears Pulis and Parish have decided it is best to go their separate ways.

Pulis worked miracles after replacing Ian Holloway last season, guiding Palace from almost certain relegation to 11th place - their highest ever Premier League finish.

Ironically, the news of the parting of the ways broke on the day Palace signed a player, £1.5m defender Martin Kelly from Liverpool.

But he is just their third signing and only the second one they have paid for during the close season.

Striker Frazier Campbell joined from Cardiff for £900,000. Free transfer centre-back Brede Hangeland is Palace's only other summer arrival.

Meanwhile Palace missed out on two of Pulis's top targets, Steven Caulker and Gylfi Sigurdsson, who joined QPR and Swansea instead.

An early name in the frame for the post at Selhurst Park include Malky Mackay who enjoyed a close working relationship with Palace sporting director Iain Moody during their time together at Cardiff.

Other potential candidates include former Celtic boss Neill Lennon, ex-Spurs manager Tim Sherwood and Glenn Hoddle who has just taken a coaching role at QPR.
