VIDAL SO SOON: Manchester United look set to step up there interest in Arturo Vidal straight away

United yesterday completed a £34m deal for England full-back Luke Shaw, 18.

And that came hot on the heels of the £28.8m capture of Spanish midfielder Ander Herrera from Athletic Bilbao just 24-hours before.

But new United boss Louis Van Gaal is not ready to stop splashing the cash and will now go head-to-head with Bayern Munich for Juventus and Chile midfield star Vidal.

Vidal, 27, is valued at around £35m and United are planning to offer unsettled winger Nani plus cash.

Despite Vidal's importance to Juventus the Italians are understood to be willing to business as they need to sell before they can buy.

Vidal is understood to be the player they would prefer to sacrifice rather than his younger team-mate, ex-United kid Paul Pogba, 21.

The left-back has penned a four-year deal with the option of an extra season on top of that, starting on £100,000 a week.

The Three Lions starlet will be battling with veteran Patrice Evra for a first-team spot but believes he will thrive under Van Gaal's attacking philosophy.

Shaw said: "I am thrilled and excited to be joining Manchester United. I want to continue to progress my career and joining United is the ideal place for me to do that.

"I am looking forward to this new chapter in my life and also looking forward to learning from the world class players and management at the club.

"As a full-back you have to defend as well but Louis van Gaal likes to play attacking full-backs and that's something I love doing so I'm really looking forward to working with him.

"I've been there since I was eight and they've treated me and my family with such great respect and there will always be a place in my heart for Southampton."

Shaw told Southampton he wanted to move on at the end of the season and United beat off competition from Chelsea to snap him up.

The Saints snubbed an opening offer of £27 million but yesterday agreed a deal that could rise to £36m.

United assistant boss Ryan Giggs reckons Old Trafford is the perfect place for Shaw to continue his incredible progress.

Giggs said: "Luke is a very talented young left back with great potential. He has developed immensely during his time at Southampton and has all the attributes to become a top player.

"I am delighted he has joined Manchester United as I believe this is the right club for him to continue his development as a young player and eventually fulfil that promise."
