Alexander Buttner will join Russian side Dynamo Moscow on a three year deal, Moscow vice-president Gennady Solovev has confirmed.
Buttner, 23, got no assurances from Louis van Gaal he was part of his plans next season and was told he could find a new club.
Earlier this week, pictures of Buttner is Moscow were uploaded by his brother on Instagram and now that Dynamo’s vice president has confirmed the move, it is only a matter of time before an official announcement is made.
"I saw him yesterday. In general, Buttner will play for Dynamo. Contract period – three years," Solovev told rsport.ru in an interview.
United might be in short supply of left-backs without Buttner but it was the right decision for him to leave as he just wasn’t good enough to be United’s first-choice left-back, even if he did help keep Arjen Robben quiet at Old Trafford in the Champions League tie against Bayern Munich.
It is Van Gaal’s first major move in the transfer window and as for United, Buttner’s departure means Evra will be the only left-back currently at the club so a move for Luke Shaw, or an alternative, is surely on the cards.
