Lampard is due to join Manchester City's franchise club for pre-season in January.

The 36-year-old plans to stay fit by training with Chelsea, who released him at the end of last season.

Lampard's decision also suggests he is going to call time with England.

Three Lions boss Roy Hodgson has said he prefers to pick players who are based in the Premier League.

Lampard was England captain for their last match, the 0-0 draw with Costa Rica on Tuesday, but returned home with the rest of the squad on Wednesday after a miserable World Cup campaign.
