Ancelotti considers keeper rollover

Carlo Ancelotti surprised everyone with his decision to start with Diego López on the first day of La Liga against Betis. His plan is to rotate his two goalkeepers this season depending on the game.

Casillas' place on the bench in the first game can be explained by the tough week that the captain had in the run-up to the game. After finishing the American tour with Real, Casillas travelled to Madrid, before heading on to Ecuador with the rest of the Spain team to play an international.

Diego was able to train with the squad and was significantly more rested heading into this season's league opener. As a result, the Galician made the cut, even though Ancelotti had trained with Iker as the starter during the week.

Despite looking to implement this new formula between the Real Madrid sticks, in the past Ancelotti has always relied on a single keeper for the domestic championship with all of his teams.

Carlo faces a weekly dilemma to choose which keeper will play. Diego López has proven that he has the ability to defend the Madrid goalmouth, as he proved last season. On the other hand, Casillas has shown during the preseason that he is working harder than ever to regain his regular place with 'Los Blancos'.
