Club will not skimp on signing a centre-back

Barcelona knows full well that it has to strengthen its defence and will not skimp on doing so. Sandro Rosell made the team's requirements very clear at last Friday's supporters club's meeting and Javier Faus again ratified the club's intention this Saturday.
The club's vice-president for financial affairs made it clear when he was asked about the transfer budget available to bring in a new signing. "Football considerations will take precedence over any financial considerations."
He then went on to clarify his comments: "We aren't going to go crazy because we have to apply a certain level of rationality, but we aren't going to skimp on signing whoever the coach and his staff ask for." That priority request involves strengthening the central defence.
The two names still highlighted on Zubizarreta's shortlist are those of Agger (Liverpool) and David Luiz (Chelsea).
