PSG making life difficult for Bale swoop

One of the obstacles for Real Madrid to convince Tottenham that the Spanish club's offer for Gareth Bale is irresistible is the bid made by Paris Saint Germain two months ago of £85 million (around €98.5 million).

The Paris club – with Ancelotti still in charge - did not want to wait for the season to finish and aimed to sign the player who had recently been named as the Premier League's Player of the Year.

PSG President, Nasser Al-Khelaifi, outlined the signing of the Welshman as the club's number-one objective to strengthen its squad, after clinching the French league championship. The next target is to make PSG European champions.

The purchase of Uruguayan striker Edinson Cavani for €64 million is proof of the club's intentions. The French club is also closely monitoring Cristiano Ronaldo's contract situation, in case complications should arise, with the club ready to pounce.

Tottenham Chairman, Daniel Levy, may well be toying with the €85 million PSG bid with the aim of increasing bidding for Bale. Levy is a hard negotiator and has received more offers besides those of Real Madrid and PSG, the most significant coming from Manchester United.

However, Gareth Bale's desire to play in Spain and not France or for United appears to favour Madrid, but PSG is making life difficult.
