Real Madrid must improve at the back

Ancelotti still has a lot of work ahead of him before Real Madrid is firing on all cylinders. 'Los Blancos' again showed their defensive frailties against Everton, especially when defending against set pieces.
The Italian coach made some changes by introducing Ramos, Arbeloa and Marcelo in defence. This was their first game of the pre-season as they had joined up with the squad later than their teammates after playing in the Confederations Cup. None of the three were able to help Pepe – the other starting defender against Everton – to put in a convincing defensive performance for Real.
Everton created several chances from set pieces but lacked an element of luck with the final ball. A Fellaini header which crashed off the woodwork was the clearest chance.
However, Madrid’s biggest fright came in the second half, when Jagielka found himself unmarked and headed just over the crossbar in what would have been the equaliser. Real was resolute in attack, but left some doubts in defence which will need to be addressed during the next few games.
