Injury halts Nasri France return

The midfielder has withdrawn from les Bleus' squad after suffering a knee injury

Samir Nasri's international comeback has been put on hold after he withdrew from France's upcoming internationals against Brazil and Uruguay through injury.

The French Football Federation (FFF) revealed the midfielder is suffering from patellar tendinopathy, or what is more commonly known as 'jumper's knee', after complaining of pain during training.

Didier Deschamps had recalled Nasri for les Bleus after the player served a year-long ban that was imposed following disciplinary issues involving previous coach Laurent Blanc during Euro 2012.

Earlier this week the 25-year-old Manchester City man stated he would be "beyond reproach" as he bids to get his international career back on track.

The injury is a big blow for Deschamps, who had been keen to ease Nasri back into his squad as quickly as possible, with coach and player holding clear-the-air talks ahead of his return.

"I will have an opportunity to talk with him alone, together. It will be the very first time in a year. But the past is past. He cannot go back or erase it,” Deschamps told Sky Sports earlier this month.

Nasri has made 34 appearances for France, scoring four goals in the process.
