Queen of the South set a new second division points record with a 1-0 win over Albion Rovers at Cliftonhill.

The Doonhamers took the game to Albion early on, Nicky Clark's brilliant right-foot volley after 20 minutes narrowly whistled over the crossbar.

Substitute Michael Paton had a chance to open the scoring in the 33rd minute with a fantastic shot from 25 yards that was saved by Graeme Shepherd.

But Clark remained the Doonhamers' biggest goal threat, forcing a brilliant save out of Shepherd midway through the second period when his powerful right-footed strike from the right-hand side of the box was tipped round the post.

Somewhat inevitably, it was Clark who finally broke the deadlock after 70 minutes as his close range volley found the bottom corner.

Daniel Carmichael had a chance to double Queen of the South's lead with 14 minutes remaining but fired over from close range.

Clark might have doubled his tally in the 84th minute with a stunning volley from the centre of the box, which was parried away by Shepherd.

The Doonhamers victory means that they end the season with a record 92 points.
