A brace from Craig Malcolm helped Stranraer secure their place in the Irn-Bru Scottish Second Division with a 2-1 win over play-off hopefuls Stenhousemuir.

The visitors got off to the perfect start when Malcolm slotted into the bottom corner from 12 yards in the fourth minute

John Gemmell, Stenhousemuir's leading goalscorer, pushed for the equaliser and he found it at the second attempt after seeing his penalty saved by David Mitchell.

With everything to play for the next goal was vital. Ross McMillan came close for the hosts but his header was denied by the crossbar.

It was the visitors who took the lead just before the break. Nicholas Devlin brought down Darren Gribben in the box, leaving Stevie O'Reilly no option but to point to the spot.

Malcolm drilled the spot kick into the top corner to claim his 19th goal of the season.

Stranraer proved too difficult to break down and a frustrating day for the hosts came to an end with Greg Ross being dismissed for a second bookable offence.
