Stiliyan Petrov has been sidelined for nearly a year
The 23-year-old’s contract with Ligue 1 Toulouse runs out at the end of the season and it is believed the French international could be available for just £3m this month.
Lambert has earmarked Sissoko as the perfect candidate to fill in for club captain Stiliyan Petrov – who is currently in remission after being diagnosed with acute leukaemia last March – with a solid holding midfielder desperately needed to protect Villa’s defence which has shipped 42 league goals this term.
